Who constantly say Jalopnik should divorce itself from the Gawker Media umbrella and think it would be able to sustain itself on its own.

Nope. It can’t (or most likely couldn’t). It ranks dead last among GM properties.

Face it, folks, declining quality of the front page aside (more like, especially because of the declining quality), Jalopnik can’t survive without GM.

Yep, always been the case. TBH, I have no idea how Jalopnik has always sustained.

I guess Fleshbot used to get less traffic than Jalopnik, but GM sold them off ages ago

The best is when people act like jalopnik ever existed without gawker in the first place. Like bruh. They were gawker’s idea.

I always had a feeling that there wasn’t enough traffic to support itself and these numbers for sure prove that. Thanks for the share.

Jalopnik, please grant me a Miata or any car for the matter, a production team, and a sponsorship; and, I will then find a way to garner some [extra] traffic.

Pretty please/Xoxo,

Ilovecars

Jalopnik would be different, but it wouldn’t have to be dead.

Heretic! Everyone knows that Jalopnik was born from the ashes of a burned 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS

It was Gawker Media’s blog about porn. I think it got sold off about a year after Kinja became a thing on Gawker 3(?) years ago

Blog about porn? I should write for them. I’ve done tons of research. *heavy breathing*

So the FP literally gets less traffic than Kinja (.com?), which, that person suggests, is because of spammers?

Amazing.

Yea, according to Wikipedia, it was actually Gawker’s 3rd blog

On the plus side, I did a little digging on quantcast and from the looks of it we have the 2nd highest amount of global traffic as far as kinja domains go.

Just gave that site a gander. It somehow manages to make porn not sexy to me. Wow.

These numbers prove nothing of the sort. They only show that Jalopnik is the least trafficked of the Gawker main sites, which doesn’t mean the site couldn’t sustain itself if it was cut loose.

That’s not to say whether or not Jalopnik could thrive on its own, just that these numbers mean little to nothing in that regard. You need financial data to make that call.

It does show that the site has taken a worrying dive since Tarvis left though, which was and is too bad.

What’s really weird is that traffic plumetted around the time Travis left. I wonder if that was a coincidence or something else.

Guys, guys! Traffic is something *I* have to worry about, not y’all. (Trust me, you don’t want that headache.)

We’ve seen two factors over the last year. One is a change to the Facebook algorithm that has affected all online publishers , not just us. The other is us being dropped off the Yahoo RSS feed when they changed their algorithm. Not on purpose, just a code change that negatively affected us.

These things happen. Traffic is much more than just people coming to your website. It’s why more than ever we’re exploring different sources of traffic and revenue, whether it’s video or new types of social media.

Welcome to my world!

I live in your world.

I’m responsible for the print and online publication of a couple of hard news and entertainment publications. :)

But thank you for coming into this post and sharing a little bit more background on Jalopnik’s specific situation. It is sincerely appreciated.
